Penang: The historic city of Georgetown is a UNESCO World Heritage Site founded in 1786 by Captain Francis of the British East India Company. Located in Kampung Baru, this Malay agricultural settlement was formed by the British colonial officials in the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. Today, this village has ended up in the very center of this modern city, but locals have preserved their traditional way of life and still live in one or two-story wooden houses.

Established in 1961, this zoo covers an area of 34 acres and is the oldest zoo in Malaysia. It is home to more than 180 species of animals including tigers, lions, elephants, giraffes, hornbills, orang utans and hippos. Visitors can also opt for the night safari where they get to see animals that are only active at night.
Built in 1875, this temple is also known as the Temple of the Azure Cloud. It is the only temple of its kind as it is famous for a number of poisonous pit snakes living on the temple grounds. Snake Temple was built in memory of renowned Chinese monk Chor Soo Kong as it is said that he used to give shelter to snakes in the jungle.
One of the oldest colonial hill stations established by the British, Penang Hill is comprised of several hills including Strawberry Hill, Halliburton’s Hill, Flagstaff Hill, Government Hill, Tiger Hill and Western Hill. Discover carnivorous pitcher plants, tree ferns, cycads and oak trees, and be sure to get a panoramic view of Georgetown from the top.
