HIGHLIGHTS

Sule Pagoda

This is one of Myanmar’s famous landmarks and is said to be over 2,000 years old. The pagoda’s uniqueness is that it is shaped in an octagon, retaining this shape as it tapers to the spire. Sule Pagoda is surrounded by stupas and shrines containing images of Buddha.

Bogyoke Market

Situated in the heart of Yangon, this market is filled with vendors selling handicrafts, clothes, jewelry, food and other goods. Annual festivals are held at Bogyoke Market such as the Zay Thingyan (Water Festival) held on the 11th or 12th of April.

Chaukhtatgyi Buddha

This reclining 65 meter long Buddha is the most popular and unique statue in Myanmar. The Buddha wears a golden robe and has a white face, red lips, blue eye shadow and red finger nails. The soles of Buddha’s feet contain 108 segments that show images representing the 108 characteristics of Buddha.

Karaweik Hall

Located at Kandawgyi Lake, visitors will get to eat at this bird-shaped floating restaurant with a grand view of the whole lake and Shwedagon Pagoda. Built in the 1980s, Karaweik Hall is comprised of three floors for traditional performances, private dining rooms, and shops selling arts and crafts.

Kyaiktiyo Pagoda

Also known as Golden Rock Pagoda, it is located on top of Mount Kyaiktiyo at 3,615 feet above sea level. This is a famous Buddhist pilgrimage site built on top of a massive granite boulder which is balanced on the edge of a cliff.

Shwemawdaw Pagoda

Known as the Great Golden God, this is one of the tallest pagodas in Myanmar at 114 meters high. It was built over 1,000 years ago and is one of the country’s most sacred sites because it enshrines several relics of the Buddha. There is even a small museum where visitors can see a display of ancient wooden and bronze images of the Buddha.
