The woven baskets and mats have a distinct Penang trademark with the most popular being the naturally dyed black mats. The Penans are also good at ironsmith and make parang or knives that are highly sought after by other communities.
This is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world as it is the place where the oldest modern human remains in Southeast Asia were discovered. The vast limestone caverns are home to a huge number of bats and an important nesting site for swiftlets. During the harvest season (August to March), nest collectors can be seen on towering bamboo structures wedged against the cave roofs.
