A bustling, diverse city of old colonial buildings and modern towers, Kuching is a kaleidoscope of cultures, crafts and cuisines. Your visit would not be complete without visiting the Sarawak Cultural Village and Semenggoh Wildlife Center and taking a river cruise to tour the city.
Take a cruise on the Sarawak River past Fort Margherita and Astana, the former residence of Raja Brooke. This river cruise is the best way to view the city and its surroundings which would be impossible to experience on dry land.
Visit this village to experience the diverse lifestyle of various ethnic groups living in Sarawak such as the Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu and Melanau. It is host to the annual, internationally renowned Rainforest World Music Festival and World Harvest Festival.
Established in 1975, this center is a sanctuary for wild animals which have been injured, orphaned or previously kept as illegal pets. Caring for almost 1,000 endangered mammals, birds and reptiles of different species, the center is famous for its orang utan rehabilitation program.
Set amidst the backdrop of tall tropical trees, lush vegetation and fruit trees, this unique farm has over a thousand crocodiles which make it a perfect sanctuary for these reptiles. Aside from the crocodiles, there are also numerous rare species of birds and animals that can only be found in the island of Borneo.
A visit to the pottery factory will show you a range of products such as ceramic stools, drinking water cisterns, decorative jars and vases, lamps, candle holders, teapots, mugs and photo frames. These items depict the traditional culture of Sarawak’s ethnic community, and flora and fauna.
