This castle is one of Japan’s most famous landmarks as it played a major role in the unification of Japan during the 16th century. It is surrounded by secondary citadels, gates, turrets, stone walls and moats. The castle is comprised of Nishinomaru Garden with 600 cherry trees, a tea house and guest house.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple

Known as the Pure Water Temple, this Buddhist temple is part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto UNESCO World Heritage site. It is one of the most celebrated temples in Japan and was founded on the site of Otowa Waterfall. One of the temple’s unique features is a wooden stage that juts out 13 meters above the hillside.

Heian Shrine

This shrine is dedicated to the spirits of the first and last emperors, Emperor Kammu and Emperor Komei, who reigned Kyoto in the past. The shrine grounds consist of an open court and a smaller replica of the original imperial palace from the Heian Period.

Asakusa Temple

Also known as Senso-ji, this is Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple and one of the most significant. Visitors first enter through the Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) to Nakamise shopping street leading to the temple’s second gate, the Hozomon. Various events are held throughout the year including Sanja Matsuri (festival of Asakusa Shrine) and the Asakusa Samba Carnival.

Lake Kawaguchi

This is one of the five lakes that lie at the foot of Mount Fuji with plenty of outdoor activities such as fishing and water sports. The best view of the mountain can be enjoyed from the lake’s northern shores. The seaside promenade is the nicest spot to see cherry blossom and autumn colors.
