Explore India’s colonial past in the city of Bangalore and visit temples, art galleries and museums. Famous landmarks include the Vidhana Soudha, Seshadari Iyer Memorial, the Bangalore Palace and Tipu Sultan’s Palace. Other places of interest include the Bannerghatta Biological Park, National Gallery of Modern Art and Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium.

Also known as the City of Palaces, Mysore is rich in culture and history dating back thousands of years. Explore a myriad of ancient palaces, gardens, temples, historical museums and massive forts. Be sure to visit Mysore Palace, Brindavan Gardens, Chamundi Hills, Lakshmiramana Swami Temple, Kukkarahali Lake and Ranggathittu Bird Sanctuary.

The town of Ooty is known for its many parks and gardens such as Ooty Botanical Gardens. Visitors can hike up to Doddabetta Peak, the highest peak (2,623 meters) with the best view of the town. Annamalai Temple is a must-visit as it has an observatory at the top of the hill.

Kodaikanal is a city in the hills of the district of Dindigul. Go for cycling, trekking or horseback riding or visit Berijam Lake, Chettiar Park, Kurinjiandavar Temple, Pine Forest, and Shanti and Green Valley. It is a popular destination for its cool and misty weather, and scenic view of the hills.

Lalbagh Botanical Garden

This botanical garden was owned by Hyder Ali, one of the famous rulers of Mysore in 1760. Explore the garden which is spread over 240 acres with 1,854 species of plants. Visit the famous Glass House shaped as a diamond which holds biannual flower shows. Other interesting landmarks include Deer Paddock, Lalbagh House and many more.

Cubbon Park

This park is named after Sir Mark Cubbon, the viceroy of India back in 1864. Visit some of the neo-classical buildings such as Vidhana Soundha which is the seat of the state legislature of Karnataka, the public library known as Attara Kacheri. Explore Sheshadri Iyer Memorial Hall which is now the City Central Library.

Bangalore Palace

This palace was built by Wodeyar Dynasty with Tudor-style architecture similar to castles built in Normandy and England. Gothic windows, battlements, fortified towers and intricate carvings are just some of the noteworthy architectural designs visitors will get to see.



Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace

Near the vibrant Krishnarajendra Market is the elegant Palace of Tipu Sultan. Built by Kempe Gowda, founder of Bengaluru, the palace was extended by the Emperor of Mysore. Constructed as the sultan’s summer residence, the palace is made out of teakwood and is adorned with pillars, arches and balconies.

Bull Temple

This temple is dedicated to Nandi Bull, the vahana (real animal or mythical creature) of Lord Shiva. While you are here, be sure to visit Bugle Rock Park or Gandhi Bazaar. Groundnut Festivals take place at this temple in November or December.

Mysore City Lake

Mysore has five major lakes where visitors will get to see more than five dozen species of birds including pelicans, painted storks, spoon bills and more. Explore the giant aviary and see the birds up close. Have a picnic by the lake or get on board a pedal boat to wander the lakes.
