Its capital city, Johor Bahru, or “JB” as it is popularly known, is the main administrative centre for the state government and a bustling commercial hub. This southernmost Malaysian city sits right next to the national boundary between Malaysia and Singapore where they are connected via the Causeway.
Overlooking the Straits, this state mosque was finished in 1900 and opened by the then Sultan Ibrahim. A combination of Moorish and Victorian architecture, visiting hours are between 10am and 6pm from Saturday to Thursday except during congregational prayers.
Built in 1940, the building is located on Bukit Timbalan and houses the State Secretariat and the offices of the state government. The building blends the cosmopolitan architecture of Renaissance style, with an overlay of Anglo-Malay influence.
This is the opulent former residence (Istana Besar or Grand Palace) of the Sultan of Johor, which is still used on special occasions but is open to the public as a museum the rest of the time. Pasir Gudang Kite Museum (Malay: Muzium Layang-Layang) is the first museum in Malaysia to present a history of kites.

Desaru Ostrich Farm has more than 100 of ostriches. In the farm, visitors have the opportunity to get close and personal with the ostriches.
Watching fireflies, or lightning bugs, is one of the main attractions in the Sungai Lebam Wetland Preservation area. Catching sight of the synchronised blinking lights for the first time is a magical experience. Fireflies emit light at their lower abdomen to attract mates and also scare away predators.
UK Farm is Malaysia’s largest goat and sheep farm, with 100 acres of grazing land for 4000 sheep. It is a self-sufficient integrated farm practicing the most modern techniques in goat and sheep rearing. Zenxin Organic Park in Johor was developed by Zenxin Agri-Organic Food. The 100-acre park is Malaysia’s first organic farm that is opened to public and has educational and recreational value.
